Mark has finally taken Elaine to see live wrestling. Find out what she made of it at the top of the show.
In TV, we start with a discussion on BBC drama Best Interests. This show depicts a parent’s fight to stop a hospital withdrawing treatment from her ill child. In our review of Best Interests, we touch on our own journey as parents of a disabled child with life limiting illnesses and also our experience of baby loss. This may be something you want to give a miss so please note our review of Best Interests runs from 12:29 to 25:26.
We also review episodes 3 and 4 of Black Mirror Season 6. You can listen to our spoiler free thoughts on Beyond the Sea from 25:26 and Mazey Day from 32:20. A reminder that our review of episodes 1 and 2 is available in our last show.
In film, we crack our whips and tip our fedoras as we review Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. We report on our friend and fellow podcaster Chris’ adventures at the London premiere, before sharing our spoiler-free thoughts on the movie (36:50). If you’ve seen the film and want to hang on for full spoilers, you’ll find them at 57:15.

In this episode, we once again make reference to ‘Allo ‘Allo and Elaine does a really creepy impression of Elmo. We also review the latest offering from the DC Extended Universe - The Flash - and the first two episodes of Season 6 of Charlie Brooker’s anthology series Black Mirror.
Slightly different set up to this show. We start with spoiler-free thoughts on The Flash (6:40) and Black Mirror S6 Eps 1 & 2 (23:18). Then, for those of you who want to listen to an in-depth, very spoilerific discussion, we finish with a spoiler section. Huge Spoilers for Black Mirror S6 Eps 1 & 2 from 36:02. Huge spoilers for The Flash from 50:42.

In this episode, we're like Cousin Matthew trundling through the countryside in his trusty motorcar…. but why *is* Mark watching Downton Abbey?
In movies, we review Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret (8:44), Fast X (17:10), and Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse (29:00).
Then in TV, Mark’s been laughing out loud to I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson (39:00), Elaine’s been getting obsessed with Silo (43:36), and we’ve got mixed views on the much awaited Poker Face (56:00). AND FINALLY, we discuss the Succession finale. With perhaps the closest we’ve come to an argument on the pod. Spoiler free chat from 1:00, then major, massive, huge spoilers (and some bickering) from 1:10.

Brace yourselves. This week’s pod is bulging with many many references to Eurovision songs new and old. Including the greatest Eurovision song of all time (according to Elaine).
In TV, we revisit s2 Yellowjackets (17:22). Elaine’s been watching Paramount Plus’ ‘re-imagining’ of 80s erotic thriller Fatal Attraction (25:32). And we reflect on the latest series of the one of the first shows we ever reviewed on the pod - Race Across the World (35:52).
In film, Mark’s been to see Super Mario Bros and Dungeons & Dragons (49:58). And we’ve both watched Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Spoiler free thoughts at 1:00, but we do delve into spoilers from 1:22.

We are back with another jam-packed show full of chat about the latest releases on the big and small screen. Starting with TV, we delve (spoiler free) into two of the shows of the moment: Succession (02:00) and Yellowjackets (17:23). Plus we review episode 1 of reality show / mockumentary Jury Duty (30:00). Mark goes to Wrestlemania 39: The Afterparty
Wednesday Apr 12, 2023
Wednesday Apr 12, 2023
Our ‘live from LA’ recording is forever lost to technical difficulties, but fear not we’ve got a bumper Wrestlemania episode for you. Live from our sofa.
And yes, Mark takes us through his thoughts on LA, the atmosphere in the stadium, and his review of the actual event. BUT also stick around for the answers to very important questions like...
What did a fellow Cultaholic fan ask Mark about Newcastle?
Did Elaine really meet Sami Zayn on a night out?
How did Snoop Dogg save Wrestlemania39?
Who exactly *is* Doink The Clown?
Plus a listener question that has Mark whacking some bushes (ahem).
As always, thanks so much for listening and please do get in touch. We love to hear from you!

Mark goes to Wrestlemania 39: The Preview
Tuesday Mar 28, 2023
Tuesday Mar 28, 2023
In this special episode, we prepare for Mark’s upcoming trip to Los Angeles for Wrestlemania 39. Our wide-ranging chat covers Mark’s entry into wrestling fandom, what to say to your dad when he tells you ‘it’s all fake’, and Elaine's least favourite wrestlers. Plus an in-depth conversation about the Wrestlemania 39 card, Prison Dom, and why the Bloodline storyline is best thing WWE has done in years.
But Wrestlemania is not enough! When Mark returns from LA, he’s off to the sold out North Wrestling show in our home town of Newcastle. We have a good chat about the emergence of the independent wrestling scene with its focus on diversity and inclusion, with particular love for North Wrestling and the Cultaholic podcast.

5 weeks to WrestleMania for Mark - and an extravaganza of film and tv reviews for you!
After a chat about renting washing machines from Rumbelows, Big Brother contestants of yesteryear, and our thoughts on the BAFTAs we do eventually get on with discussing the latest big releases.
In a move that causes confusion for Elaine, this week’s episode deals with the silver screen first. Mark’s been to see Cocaine Bear (11:25) and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (33:01). Elaine’s been to see The Whale (20:00). We also touch quickly on Blue Jean and Marcel the Shell with Shoes on.
In TV, we’ve both been showered with nostalgia in Season 3 of Picard (four lights, there are four lights!) (48:05) and we've enjoyed watching rich people in misery in acerbic New York-based comedy Fleishman Is in Trouble (1:00:40).

“It’s not Naked Lunch”: Happy Valley, The Last of Us, Plane, Knock at the Cabin
Wednesday Feb 08, 2023
Wednesday Feb 08, 2023
The countdown to Mark’s trip to Wrestlemania in Los Angeles continues (only 7 more weeks of this!) before we turn to slightly less jocular goings-on in the BBC’s Happy Valley (13:15) and HBO’s post-apocalyptic video game adaptation The Last of Us (22:50). In our film section, Gerard Butler’s superbly named Brodie Torrance is in full action mode in Plane (29:04). And we end with our thoughts on M. Night Shyamalan’s latest offering Knock at the Cabin (37:08). We start with a spoiler free discussion of KATC but please be aware that we get into full on spoilers from 53:25.
