Mark goes to Wrestlemania 39: The Afterparty
Wednesday Apr 12, 2023
Wednesday Apr 12, 2023
Our ‘live from LA’ recording is forever lost to technical difficulties, but fear not we’ve got a bumper Wrestlemania episode for you. Live from our sofa.
And yes, Mark takes us through his thoughts on LA, the atmosphere in the stadium, and his review of the actual event. BUT also stick around for the answers to very important questions like...
What did a fellow Cultaholic fan ask Mark about Newcastle?
Did Elaine really meet Sami Zayn on a night out?
How did Snoop Dogg save Wrestlemania39?
Who exactly *is* Doink The Clown?
Plus a listener question that has Mark whacking some bushes (ahem).
As always, thanks so much for listening and please do get in touch. We love to hear from you!

Mark goes to Wrestlemania 39: The Preview
Tuesday Mar 28, 2023
Tuesday Mar 28, 2023
In this special episode, we prepare for Mark’s upcoming trip to Los Angeles for Wrestlemania 39. Our wide-ranging chat covers Mark’s entry into wrestling fandom, what to say to your dad when he tells you ‘it’s all fake’, and Elaine's least favourite wrestlers. Plus an in-depth conversation about the Wrestlemania 39 card, Prison Dom, and why the Bloodline storyline is best thing WWE has done in years.
But Wrestlemania is not enough! When Mark returns from LA, he’s off to the sold out North Wrestling show in our home town of Newcastle. We have a good chat about the emergence of the independent wrestling scene with its focus on diversity and inclusion, with particular love for North Wrestling and the Cultaholic podcast.

5 weeks to WrestleMania for Mark - and an extravaganza of film and tv reviews for you!
After a chat about renting washing machines from Rumbelows, Big Brother contestants of yesteryear, and our thoughts on the BAFTAs we do eventually get on with discussing the latest big releases.
In a move that causes confusion for Elaine, this week’s episode deals with the silver screen first. Mark’s been to see Cocaine Bear (11:25) and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (33:01). Elaine’s been to see The Whale (20:00). We also touch quickly on Blue Jean and Marcel the Shell with Shoes on.
In TV, we’ve both been showered with nostalgia in Season 3 of Picard (four lights, there are four lights!) (48:05) and we've enjoyed watching rich people in misery in acerbic New York-based comedy Fleishman Is in Trouble (1:00:40).

“It’s not Naked Lunch”: Happy Valley, The Last of Us, Plane, Knock at the Cabin
Wednesday Feb 08, 2023
Wednesday Feb 08, 2023
The countdown to Mark’s trip to Wrestlemania in Los Angeles continues (only 7 more weeks of this!) before we turn to slightly less jocular goings-on in the BBC’s Happy Valley (13:15) and HBO’s post-apocalyptic video game adaptation The Last of Us (22:50). In our film section, Gerard Butler’s superbly named Brodie Torrance is in full action mode in Plane (29:04). And we end with our thoughts on M. Night Shyamalan’s latest offering Knock at the Cabin (37:08). We start with a spoiler free discussion of KATC but please be aware that we get into full on spoilers from 53:25.

Welcome back! This week, we discuss Mark’s availability to play Santa, some great telly, some questionable Christmas films, and, oh yes, that really unknown film Avatar: The Way of Water.
In TV, Elaine’s very happy to see the return of Tom Burke’s troubled private detective Strike (6:10) whilst Mark is charmed by The Flatshare (15:27).
In film, Mark’s been on a Christmas extravaganza, taking in Violent Night (21:25), Falling for Christmas (25:08), and A Christmas Story Christmas (27:46).
And finally, we discuss James Cameron’s very small movie, Avatar: The Way of Water. Spoiler free thoughts from 32:30 and then full on spoilers from 1:06.
